During my annual visit to the New Bedford Folk Festival, I love to browse in the artisan booths in between the performances. This year, I was immediately taken with the work of Lianna Slater, who makes striking pieces with lovely combinations of precious metals, beads and stones.
Lianna, who earned a B.A. in Fine Art and later studied art in Florence, Italy, has a wonderful sense of design. What do I like most? She often uses stones she finds on local beaches in Rhode Island and in Westport, Massachusetts (which I often visit).
Lianna also uses semi-precious stones that she gathers on her travels to Brazil and Mexico. And, in Utah, she visits mines to collect gorgeous fossils and natural gemstones.
Do you have a special rock or stone you'd like to have made into a beautiful piece of jewelry? Lianna will work with you to create your vision.
Not only is Lianna a jewelry artist, she teaches jewelry design to adults with developmental disabilities and manages an art gallery that sells their work in Newport, Rhode Island, Downtown Designs.
Beautiful work with a compelling story to go with it. You can see more of Lianna's work at Lianna Michelle Designs.
