Annette Dam, an up-and-coming jewelry artist, is showing off her latest work in "More or Less", her solo show at the Goldfingers Gallery in Denmark. Here are some of my favorite pieces from the show.
Like many other contemporary jewelry artists who challenge the notion of what jewelry is supposed to look like, Dam's pieces resemble conceptual art rather than traditional jewelry.
What is aesthetically beautiful? Can the artist combine unlikely materials in unusual ways, and create something attractive?
Brooch: silver, gold plated and oxidized, Akoya pearls, silk thread
Dam brings together precious metals or stones and common, everyday materials to create the unexpected.
Necklace: silver, enamel, transfer, elastic
Dam is also one of the featured artists in a book entitled, From the Coolest Corner: Nordic Jewelry, that shows work made by artists from Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway, Sweden and the Baltic States.
